<description>As an afriCuban educator and law Prof i am someone who remains a supporter of the revolution, and the part which Cubans of all colours played and are often still playing.
However, i will lay fault at the doors of those professionals who left Cuba from 1960-70 and took thier knowledge, skills, artistry and thier love for Cuba away to other countries.

As a an adult who was a teenager when Fidel, ElChe,my father and uncles claimed victory in Havana, i now look back and overstand what happened and why the Castro Adm has made many of the decisions they have.
To all who are not old enough to remember the terror in Cuba under Batista, i suggest that you, open a book and carefully read the stories about the murders, racism, gambling prostitution and other insanity that went on during his adm.

Many Cubans left for economic reasons for sure, however most followed those who left for Miami in the early years because they were the ones who abused AfroCubans, commandeered the land, food and housing and when they were forced out,,yelled FOUL!

While i agree that change is needed i will not agree that those who left (celia Cruz, Prado, More, Santamaria et/al) set the tone for not only the loss of helpful revenue, but the loss of committment to those left behind.

I call them cowards.

<description>I have read Las Criadas de La Habana (Maids of Havana) and it is a wonderful source of the dialectic between white and black Cuban...you must understand that it needs to be seen through the prism of the Cuban Conceit: that to say &quot;Cuban is enough&quot;, redundant to call someone a &quot;white Cuban,&quot; or a &quot;black Cuban&quot; or &quot;asian cuban&quot;...this was the Martiano idea committed to creating &quot;a Republic of Love&quot;....A tall order, huh?

Thanks for the post. Good to know that Sarduy's work is translated!
