UK: Blair wrecks Labour Party election results [Politics, Peace and war, Literature] — Administrator @ 3:07 pm

Slowly, results of the English local, Welsh, and Scottish elections of yesterday are coming in now.

The slowness has apparently to do with ‘chaotic’ problems with votes (see also here), which, if they would happen in some East European or Third World country with a less than cordial relationship with Washington, DC, would lead to calls in the corporate media for some “colour code revolution” for regime change sponsored by the West.

However, as this is Blair’s Britain, like with vote fraud in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, those calls are not to be expected now.

From Bloomberg:

Britain’s ruling Labour Party lost seats in local elections, underlining the challenge Gordon Brown faces to revive support as he takes over from Prime Minister Tony Blair. …

“This is the fourth election where Labour has put in a poor performance,'’ said John Curtice, a professor of politics at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

“The party managed not to crash in England so the inheritance for Brown is not quite as tarnished as it might have been, but this is still a pretty abysmal result.'’

Dwindling Popularity

Blair’s popularity has slumped over his support for the war in Iraq, allegations denied by Labour that the party sold political honors and dissatisfaction with public services.

Labour has suffered losses in every round of local elections since the 2003 invasion of Iraq and had its majority in the national Parliament halved to 67 two years ago.
