The number of loggerhead sea turtles that nested along protected areas of South Africa’s KwaZulu coastline is on the rise.Green turtles: here.There were more than 2000 loggerhead nestings tallied by WWF scientists that monitored the beaches during the 2005-2006 season.
This represents the highest number of nestings for the species recorded during the past 43 years.

Voyage of the Lonely Turtle
Tune in to PBS on April 15Ten years ago, Academy research associate Wallace J. Nichols released Adelita, a female loggerhead turtle, off the west coast of Mexico and tracked her by satellite to Japan, a whopping 7,000 miles away. During her journey, Adelita confronted typhoons, sharks, whales, and squid, and passed through several exotic kingdoms of the sea. On April 15, tune in to PBS’s Nature series for “Voyage of the Lonely Turtle,” and follow Adelita on her epic journey. Airs at 8 pm; check your local TV listings.
